Commuting in Bangkok and suburban areas is becoming easier and perhaps faster as Google has integrated transit and traffic information of Bangkok on Google Maps.
Public transit users, motorists and foreign tourists can now use Google Maps to plan their routes.
Through the collaboration of Google and traffic and transport agencies including Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS), Bangkok Metro Public Company Limited, Metro Operator (MRT) and Chaophraya Express Boat, Internet users can access the Google Maps for viewing bus, train and boat schedules, locations and routes of the BMTA, BTS and MRT. They can also view live traffic in Bangkok of Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) on the web.
The service can be accessed via Google Maps at maps.google.co.th/transport, according to Pornthip Kongchun, Thailand Marketing Head, Google Southeast Asia.
She noted that public transit users, motorists and foreign tourists can use Google Maps to plan their routes and make an informed decision on the quickest and most convenient way to reach their destinations.
On the move users can also access the service which allows them to locate addresses and navigate maps on while on the go, Pornthip said. "With Google Maps for Mobile, the feature of My Location shows your location on the map even if your phone does not have GPS, and lets you look up business listings in relation to where are you," she said.
Foreigners can also enjoy access the service as it runs in English and Thai.
Traffic and transit features in Google Maps for Mobile allows users to plan their travel while on the move and they just download on their phones at http://m.google.co.th/maps.
Currently, iPhone and HTC subscribers can use the features of Google Maps for Mobile, as Pornthip noted that it can be run on any mobile phone platform.
Thailand is among eight countries where Google has launched the service, said Andrew McGlinchey, head of Product Management, Google Southeast Asia.
Other countries are the US, the UK, Hong Kong, China, Russia, France and Singapore. "For some of those we do only transit information, while there are not so many countries including Thailand where we do both transit and traffic information," McGlinchey said.
Я тут сатмапом скачал гибридную карту Бангкока - могу выложить здесь JPEG картинки если админиcтрация не возражает. Так как раз все дороги и оcтавновки есть. И даже многи здания подписаны на английском и тайском
